Muneto-jinja Shrine

A shrine that enshrines the spirit of Abe no Muneto

This shrine is dedicated to Abe no Yoritoki, Sadato, and Muneto, who fought against Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Yoshiie in the Former Nine Years' War (1053–1062), which took place in the Tohoku region in the late Heian period.

According to a document about the foundation of the shrine, they were enshrined by the surviving retainers of Muneto.

The Tsuina Festival, which is held at Muneto-jinja Shrine, is known for conducting the first bean-throwing ceremony of the year in Japan.
